Space Shuttle Challenger taught the world about science and grief. This is the untold story of the Challenger crew as seen through the lens of a photojournalist who covered it all.
The story of a kid who had his first photo published at age 14 and by the time he graduated high school had been published more than 500 times, photographed every living U.S. President, declined a job offer with the Associated Press, and negotiated an exclusive contract with ABC News. He later went on to cover stories for magazines, The New York Times including the Return to Flight of Space Shuttle Discovery and three back-to-back hurricanes for The Weather Channel before moving to LA to work in film. This project is based on the early life of journalist-turned-filmmaker Chris Ian Garlington, founder of Indigo Skylab.
Indigo Skylab was already preparing itself to become a producer of 'film with purpose' when Participant Media shut down in April 2024. Shortly after, a call went out from Hollywood asking for filmmakers to step up and fill the gap. We are continuing to prepare to meet this moment by doing just that. You can read the article below. We are actively seeking financing for documentaries and features. Our projects have social impact built in from the start.
At Indigo Skylab, we're the LA-based cosmic storytellers sprinkling stardust on your story to ignite its soul. We illuminate the sparks within your story and set hearts aglow for a meaningful and lasting impact on audiences.

Hollywood Asked.
Indigo Skylab is answering the call.
“We call upon Hollywood to meet the moment...
As we reflect on the accomplishments of Participant, we look forward to championing the next generation of producers that will build upon Participant’s extraordinary body of work, integrating learnings it has offered, seeding new partnerships and innovating within this new media landscape...
Social-impact films need to get made... everyone in Hollywood I think has a role to play in making sure that it does.”

Until it ceased operations, Participant was the leading media company dedicated to entertainment that inspired and compelled social change. Founded in 2004 by Jeff Skoll, Participant's content combined the power of a good story well told with opportunities for real-world impact and awareness around the most pressing global issues of our time.
